What is FMLA?

The University of Florida values its employees and recognizes the challenges employees can face when it comes to balancing work and personal responsibilities, particularly when those responsibilities are related to the employee’s own health and the health of loved ones. The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) entitles eligible employees to take unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons. The UF HR Central Leave team is available to support you through the FMLA process, provide additional information, and address any questions you may have at any time. Contact us at fmla@hr.ufl.edu or (352) 392-2477.

The FMLA website, https://benefits.hr.ufl.edu/time-away/fmla/, has been redesigned to be more employee friendly and provide on-demand information regarding FMLA.  On the website, under Additional Resources, you will find employee and departmental administrator process maps.

FMLA-related absences must be properly reflected in the time reporting system using the appropriate time reporting code.  When reporting your unplanned absences to your supervisors, please state if this is a FMLA related absence or is due to another medical condition.
